Ranked or Social, cover tools intact
4v4 modes
Versus in Gears of War: E-Day is the refined 4v4 side of the launch. The store page puts it next to Campaign and Horde Siege and describes fan-favorite modes on new maps, playable as Ranked or Social. Jump, vault, slide, and flank are the traversal words attached to that pitch. Competitive multiplayer on the same page goes up to eight players, which is two teams of four. That is a different cap from the four-player online co-op line and from Horde's twelve. Read the cap next to the mode you queued, not as one number for the whole disc.
The July 30 multiplayer post is the long public note on this mode. It describes four Versus modes. It does not print their names. Ranked is dated separately: it opens October 13, 2026, one week after the October 6 worldwide launch, and weekly challenges refresh that day. Social is available as the other playlist label, without a finer timetable in that post. Inventing mode titles to fill four cards would only have to be deleted when the real names show up. The movement kit below is printed, and it is the part a player can practice from the notes alone.
Movement the notes actually print
Low ground is the cover stance. A Gear hunkers behind a low wall, or goes prone when the top of that cover is shot away. Movement in that state is slower, and the body is more exposed. Roadie sprint starts hunched, the familiar Roadie Run posture, and longer sprints change the camera. A slide from that sprint gets the Gear low, crosses a gap, or ends in cover, and shooting is allowed during the slide. The Gnasher note on the weapon board says the shotgun itself can be fired during a slide, which matches this movement rule from the gun's side.
Jump and climb add vertical traversal through the city and the multiplayer spaces. The notes do not print a jump height or a mantle timer. Cover cancel is the precision rule: it is only available within 1.5 meters of the cover. That is the one distance in the movement set. Players who bounce off a wall from farther away should not expect the cancel. Vault and flank are named in the Versus pitch even though the movement list spells out slide, jump, and the cover stance in more detail than it spells out a vault button. The list below is the spelled-out set. The pitch words stay in the intro so both layers stay visible.
Take low cover
·Low ground
·Hunker behind low walls, or go prone when the top of the cover is shot away. Movement is slower and the Gear is more exposed.
Sprint
·Roadie sprint
·The sprint starts hunched like a Roadie Run. Longer sprints change the camera.
Slide from sprint
·Slide
·Get low, pass a gap, or slide into cover. Shooting is allowed during the slide.
Jump or climb
·Jump and climb
·Adds vertical traversal through the city and the multiplayer spaces.
Cancel a cover entry
·Cover cancel
·The cancel is only available within 1.5 meters of the cover.
Social, Ranked, and the missing names
Social is the playlist name for the looser queue. Ranked is the playlist that waits until October 13. The season note ties weekly challenges to that same Tuesday-equivalent date, one week after launch, without printing the challenge list. A player planning a launch-week schedule can put campaign, Horde Siege, and Social Versus on October 6, and put Ranked on October 13. Premium owners who start October 1 still meet Ranked on the 13th. Early access does not pull the ranked date forward in the written calendar.
Four unnamed modes are a real gap. The July 30 post is comfortable describing the set as four and then spending its detail on movement, weapons, and the shape of a 4v4 match. Execution rules show up on the Breechshot, which has axe executions and a one-shot headshot in PvP. That is a weapon fact, not a mode name. Similarly, active reload is described gun by gun on the weapon board. Versus players inherit those guns. There is no second tuning pass printed that says the Gnasher's six-shell tube is campaign-only. Assume the printed weapon changes apply where the guns appear, and wait for a post that splits the sandboxes before writing two tables.
Where a 4v4 match can run
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC share the launch clock and share progression through Xbox Play Anywhere. Console two-player split-screen is a local option on the store page and is not the same thing as an eight-player Versus match. Steam is the Windows build, with pre-install on September 29 at 15:00 UTC and the same October 1 and October 6 access split between Premium and everyone else. The July 30 post names Xbox cloud beside the console and PC builds. It does not print a cloud-only playlist or a cloud control scheme.
Controller support on the Steam app is full. Mouse and keyboard are the expected PC pairing and are not given a separate aim-assist paragraph in the sources used here. Maps are described as new, and they are not named. Season 1's focus line includes launch maps and modes, so the Versus maps in the box on October 6 are the launch set, with later seasons free to add more. The Open Beta in August was the public multiplayer test. Weekend 2 on PC required an SSD. That requirement matches the shipping spec, which asks for 115 GB on an SSD at both minimum and recommended.
